NON-PROFIT PARTNERS
Airship Earth
Airship Earth, a focused, mission-driven, non-profit organization, recently
joined the NASA Research Park (NRP) on July 1, 2009, with two purposes: 1)
lead the development of Archangel, a Disaster Response and Risk Reduction
Communications Network, to enhance the capacity of nations, states,
communities, nongovernmental organizations, militaries and other
humanitarian emergency organizations to more effectively respond to and
mitigate short-term and long-term natural and manmade disasters such as
wildfires, earthquakes, tsunamis and pandemics; and 2) reduce global warming
and poverty by creating market-based mechanisms in which community-based
forest protection and restoration projects remove greenhouse gases from the
atmosphere, deliver ecological co-benefits and new financial flows to the
communities involved with forest protection and restoration.
Airship Earth has future plans for expanding their footprint at NRP, which
include adaptive re-use of an historic building into a Disaster Response
Communication Facility. To advance the implementation of their missions, a
joint-development partnership between ARC and Airship Earth is in progress
to identify existing technologies that are readily adoptable and extendable
in the areas of geospatial analysis and visualization, supercomputer cluster
processing, collaborative decision environments, mobile social networks,
image recognition software, and ecosystem restoration technologies –
technologies in which ARC leads among the Agency.
